Help for Haiti

The people of Haiti need our help. Please join the UMCOR in the relief efforts A devastating earthquake has struck Haiti leaving thousands dead and hundreds of thousands homeless.

The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere has few resources to cope with this disaster. Those who had virtually nothing to begin with have even less now. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), along with many other organizations, is responding quickly to provide medical help, clothing, food and water. Our monetary donations are needed immediately to pay for these needed supplies. You can make checks out to ORUMC, and note it is for “Haiti Quake Relief”.

As a part of this relief effort to help the people of Haiti, the WNCC has also asked churches to provide “Health Kits” to provide basic necessities to those displaced from their homes. These kits are made up of supplies that cost approximately $12 per kit, and literally tens of thousands are needed quickly.

Our TLC small groups will be leading our church’s efforts to provide as many kits as possible, and we would like everyone in the congregation to participate as they are led. The supplies for the kit, and how to package it, can be found by clicking on the following link. We will be collecting the kits throughout the week outside the church office, and we need to have all kits no later than Sunday evening, January 24. The $1 per kit they request to purchase toothpaste will be collected in an envelope in the church office.

Recovery from this disaster will take years, and in the coming months other types of kits and support will be needed. We will keep you informed as those needs arise. Please keep the people of Haiti, and those in harm’s way responding to their needs, in your prayers.
