TLC Small Groups: What are they?
Our ORUMC small groups are termed "TLC Groups" (Tender Loving-Care Groups). Each TLC group is comprised of 4 to 15 members. When a group reaches 15 members and/or has been together for 18 months, whichever comes first, the group is asked to "multiply", that is divide the group and begin a new group. This does several important things:
- the groups are open to "new blood" which leads to greater health and functioning within the group and within the congregation;
- exponential growth and multiplication of small groups within the congregation occurs, and the groups have less of a tendency to be cliquish and exclusive.
What Does a TLC Group Include?
Each TLC group includes a Lay Shepherd (the facilitator and leader of the small group), an Assistant Lay Shepherd (one being groomed to eventually lead his/her own small group), and a host/hostess (one who makes certain the logistics for the small group meetings are in place). Other roles may be added as necessary.
What is the Purpose of a TLC Group?
The central purpose of TLC groups is to guide each member toward a deeper connection with God and with our brothers and sisters in Christ. This is an exciting time in the life of our congregation. Spiritual and numerical growth is occurring. To be faithful to our Christian calling to make disciples we must provide a structure by which all of us and all who come through the doors of ORUMC may have a place to BEGIN, to BELONG, and to BECOME. As we grow larger we must grow smaller. TLC groups will enable us to do just that.
